Why ports get checked last — and cost the most
Nobody buys an interactive flat panel for its ports, but a missing port is the first thing that ruins installation day. The panel arrives, the room is wired, and then someone holds up a laptop with only USB-C and asks "where does this plug in?" If the panel doesn't have the right inputs, the room grinds to a halt until adapters and dongles show up.
Ports are the connective tissue between the panel and everything else in the room — laptops, document cameras, USB drives, wired networks, wireless casting. The question worth asking before you buy isn't "does it connect" but "what does it connect to, and how easily."
The core video inputs: HDMI, USB-C and VGA
A serious interactive flat panel carries multiple HDMI inputs — Lonton ships HDMI 2.0 ×3, so a laptop, a document camera and a set-top box can all stay plugged in without swapping cables. USB-C is the newer workhorse: it carries video and power over one cable, and a USB-C port with 65W Power Delivery will charge a connected laptop while it's casting. VGA is the legacy port that still matters, because a lot of schools and offices run older projectors and PCs that haven't moved on yet.
When you compare quotes, count the HDMI and USB-C ports, not just whether they exist. A panel with one HDMI and no USB-C will frustrate a meeting room within the first week.
Data and power: USB 3.0 and USB-C charging
USB ports do more than connect flash drives. USB 3.0 ×3 gives you room for a wireless mouse, a touch dongle, and a USB drive at the same time. And a USB-C port with power delivery turns the panel into a one-cable hub for a modern laptop — video in, power out, no dock required. That one port is often the difference between a clean meeting room and a desk buried in cables.
Network and wireless: RJ45, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth
For a wired classroom or a building with flaky WiFi, an RJ45 port keeps the panel on a stable connection. For everything else, WiFi 6 handles fast, reliable wireless casting and app use, and Bluetooth 5.0 connects wireless keyboards, pens and audio without a fight.
