What Is Google EDLA? A Plain-English Guide
You're comparing interactive flat panels and one spec sheet says "Google EDLA certified" while the next one says nothing at all. That single line does more work than it looks — it decides whether Google Play Store, Google Meet, and Google Classroom run the day you plug the panel in.
This guide explains what Google EDLA actually is, what it changes on the hardware, and what to look for before you write a purchase order.
What "Google EDLA" Actually Means
EDLA stands for Enterprise Devices Licensing Agreement. It's Google's program that lets a manufacturer pre-install the full Google Mobile Services suite on an Android device — Google Play, Google Meet, Chrome, Gmail, Drive, Maps, and the rest — so they work out of the box.
For an interactive flat panel, that's the difference between a display that's ready to teach or meet with, and one your IT team has to configure by hand.
EDLA-Certified vs a Plain Android Panel
A panel without EDLA still runs Android. But it runs a stripped-down AOSP build with no Google apps. There's no Play Store, which means installing classroom or meeting software means sideloading APK files. Most school IT departments and corporate admins won't touch that — and they're right not to.
An EDLA-certified panel ships with the Google app family already installed and signed in ready to go. The teacher opens Classroom, the host launches Meet, and nobody reaches for a laptop to bridge the gap.
Why It Matters for Schools and Meeting Rooms
In a K-12 or higher-ed classroom, Google Classroom is often the default platform. On an EDLA panel that flow needs zero setup. On a non-EDLA panel, Classroom isn't in any app store and the display becomes an expensive touch monitor instead of a teaching tool.
The same logic holds in a meeting room. Google Meet, Drive, and Sheets are core to a lot of hybrid teams. An EDLA panel lets a host launch Meet straight from the home screen, share a Drive file, and join a call without a laptop in the middle.
How to Check an EDLA Claim Before You Buy
Not every "Google EDLA" claim is equal. When you're comparing quotes, ask the supplier three questions:
- Is the certification for this exact model, or a different one in the range? Some factories certify one size and list EDLA across the whole line. Get the model number in writing.
- Does it ship with Google Play installed, or do you enable it later? You want the Play Store pre-loaded and working before it leaves the factory.
- What Android version is it built on? EDLA matters most on a current Android build. A panel stuck on an old OS ages poorly even with certification.
How Lonton Builds EDLA-Certified Panels
Lonton is the factory. We build interactive flat panels from 65" up to 110" in a 100,000+ m² facility with 15 production lines and a 23,000 m² Class 10,000 cleanroom, and we ship them with Google EDLA certification available across the range. See our Google EDLA certified interactive flat panel buyer's guide for the full breakdown.
Every panel runs 40-point infrared touch, 4K UHD, and Android 15 with the Google app family pre-loaded. MOQ starts at 5 units, and we hold ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 plus CE, FCC, and RoHS. We've supplied T-Mobile, Shenzhen University, and Lexue Education.
Get an EDLA-Certified Panel Quote
Tell us your size, quantity, and whether you need Windows OPS or a mobile stand, and we'll send a factory-direct quote with the EDLA certification written into the spec. That way the panel you receive is the panel you approved.
FAQ
What does EDLA stand for?
Enterprise Devices Licensing Agreement — Google's program for pre-installing Google Mobile Services on Android devices like interactive flat panels.
Is a Google EDLA panel the same as a regular Android panel?
No. Both run Android, but only an EDLA panel ships with Google Play, Meet, and Classroom pre-installed and working out of the box.
Do schools need Google EDLA?
If your classrooms run on Google Classroom or Google Workspace for Education, EDLA should sit near the top of your checklist. It removes the setup and sideloading that a non-certified panel requires.
Can I install Google apps on a non-EDLA panel?
You'd have to sideload APK files, which most IT teams avoid for security and update reasons. An EDLA panel gets the apps through official Google channels.
Does Lonton offer Google EDLA certification?
Yes. EDLA certification is available across Lonton's 65" to 110" interactive flat panels. Confirm the exact model when you ask for a quote.
